Mother’s Day is this Sunday and while I’m grateful to be able to celebrate with my mom on this special day, I know that for some people, including my mom, this day will be filled with some sadness.
For those who have lost their mother or a child or perhaps never felt their own mother’s love, Mother’s Day can be a painful reminder of what you no longer have. While these feelings of sadness may always be with you, there is so much love surrounding you.
We know that women are naturally maternal and it is our nurturing compassionate love that makes us all mothers. With that thought in mind, let’s acknowledge and celebrate all of our “mothers.” These are the women who have not only supported us but have helped us become the person we are today.
Although our “mothers” have appeared in different forms throughout our life – aunts, sisters, nieces, grandmas, teachers, neighbors and friends, I truly believe their unconditional love is all around us. All we need to do is notice it.
So as we approach this holiday weekend, take a look around and notice all of your mothers. I guarantee you will see them everywhere. Let them know how amazing they are and, while you’re at it, give yourself a pat on the back as well.
We all deserve to be honored, not just on Mother’s Day but on every day.
