When I was younger, every year on the 4th of July my parents would take me and my siblings to the Glenview Golf Course to see the fireworks.

Laying on the lush green grass and watching the spectacular display of colors explode in the night sky is a memory that will be forever etched in my mind.

As much as I loved seeing the fireworks, what I loved even more was what we did afterwards.

Once the fireworks were over, my parents would load us into the station wagon (you know, the one with the wood paneling on the sides) and we would head to Mr. Buck’s Dairy Queen.  Mr. Buck was a family friend and he owned the Dairy Queen not far from the golf course.

At the time, I thought Dairy Queen ice cream was truly the best thing ever invented.  It was perfectly soft and creamy and I loved it!  Even when I would get one of those “ice cream headaches,” I could not stop eating my Mister Misty float.

Sadly, as an adult I discovered that I was sensitive to dairy and my days of eating Dairy Queen ice cream were over.

I searched and searched for alternatives but many of the products I tried didn’t taste very good or they were loaded with cane sugar and lots of artificial ingredients.

And then it happened…..just when I was about to give up on my search, I discovered Cosmic Bliss Dairy-Free Frozen Dessert.  Without a doubt, this has become my new favorite ice cream!

The name alone makes it a keeper but it’s the ingredients that keep me coming back for more.  Not only are the ingredients dairy-free, organic and plant-based, but they use coconut sugar instead of cane sugar as a sweetener.  That’s almost unheard of when it comes to ice cream.

In addition to the dairy-free ice cream, Cosmic Bliss makes dairy-free dessert bars and cookie sandwiches.  They even have a dairy-free and gluten-free dark chocolate cookie sandwich that is amazing.

A word of caution though when you’re shopping for Cosmic Bliss.  The company also makes grass-fed dairy ice cream and the packaging is almost identical to the dairy-free frozen dessert.  So, if you want the dairy-free version, check the label carefully to make sure you get the right one.

Whatever your preference is, food is meant to be enjoyed.  Yes, it is nourishing but it’s also a source of joy and pleasure and wonderful memories.

Do I still dream about my Mister Misty float?  You bet I do, but my older (and wiser) self is choosing Cosmic Bliss dairy-free ice cream and honestly, it makes me just as happy.

So this 4th of July, when the fireworks are over, instead of going to Dairy Queen, I will be sitting on my couch with a spoon in one hand and a carton of Cosmic Bliss in the other….need I say more?

I hope you have a wonderful 4th of July weekend.
