With just a few days left in February, I thought this would be a good time to check in with you and see how you’re doing with your new year’s resolutions.
If you’re still going strong, that’s awesome….keep it up! If, however, you can’t even remember what your goals were, you’re definitely not alone.
Even with the best of intentions, studies have shown that by the middle of February, approximately 80% of people call it quits and abandon their health goals.
But the good news is you still have TEN months left in the year to achieve the goals you set for 2022!
Choosing to start anew is a decision you can make at any time. It’s a mental shift that allows you to wipe the slate clean and approach your goals with fresh eyes.
However, when you are focusing your attention on what you would like to create, it’s important to give yourself some grace. We need to remember that it can take time to become accustomed to something new, no matter how much we want it.
If a resolution or goal has not worked out for you, that doesn’t mean you have failed. Sometimes, it simply means that what you were seeking may not be what you actually need or maybe you need to adjust your goal to better fit your lifestyle.
When it comes to setting goals, there are a few reasons that can cause people to stumble and eventually give up.
#1 Your goals are not realistic or specific enough.
For example, instead of saying “I want to lose 40 pounds,” try saying “I want to lose 1-2 pounds per week in a healthy, sustainable way.” Sounds much more manageable, doesn’t it?
#2 You don’t have the support systems that make success easy.
For example, you may have set the goal to eat healthier but you don’t know what to eat, where to shop or how to cook it. Without the necessary support, you will likely fall back into your old patterns.
#3 You forget to focus on your gains.
Celebrating your small wins is crucial because it reminds you that you’re on the right path. Progress, not perfection, is always the goal!
Whatever the reason may be, if you’ve given up on your goals know that in this very moment you can make a fresh start. There is no need to wait for a new year, a new month or a new week to begin your journey.
Once your journey has begun, have faith that with every step you take, you are choosing to learn, grow and find what makes you truly happy and healthy.
Enjoy the journey 🙂
