The holiday season may be called the most wonderful time of the year but between buying gifts, hosting parties, attending family gatherings and trying not to break the bank, it might also be the most stressful time of the year.

Don’t get me wrong….I love the excitement of the holidays but when I find myself rushing around from one thing to the next, I can easily let my self-care fall to the bottom of my to-do list.  🙁

There is a skill to balancing our holiday obligations and it starts with making self-care the #1 priority. When you put yourself at the top of your list, then everything else will fall into place….I promise!

Now if you’re thinking you can’t possibly squeeze one more thing into your already full schedule, consider this. The gift of self-care can come in many forms and most of them can be easily incorporated into your everyday life.

Rest – I think it goes without saying that trying to do everything during the holidays is no way to live. When you allow yourself moments of rest and relaxation, your life will be better in so many ways.

Get Outside – It may be winter but try to make an effort to spend some time outdoors. The natural light can boost your mood, improve your sleep and strengthen your immune system.

Time Alone – The holidays are filled with parties and social gatherings but there’s nothing quite like a little solitude (and a great Hallmark movie) to recharge your batteries.

Let Go of Your Agenda – I know, I know… this may not be easy to do but give it a try. Rather than always doing, think about just being, even if it’s only for a few moments.

Give Yourself Grace – You are doing a lot, dear one, so let go of any guilt you may be carrying. Know that everything you are doing is enough.

Sleep – The gift of sleep never goes out of style. Getting extra rest is good for your body and your soul.

Taking the time to embrace these lifestyle choices is not only the gift that keeps on giving but it’s also the cornerstone to great health.

So the next time you find yourself feeling overwhelmed and stressed by your endless list of activities, remember that it’s okay to bump yourself up to the top of your list.

It’s okay to take that walk, get that massage, or simply curl up with your favorite book and a warm cup of tea.

Gift yourself some self-care this holiday season….you deserve it.
