As we move forward with plans for reopening our country, I’m sure you’re probably thinking about what the future has in store for you. If you recently lost your job or your business, are you considering starting a new career? Or maybe you suddenly found yourself working from home and now you’re wondering if this is going to be your new way of life.
While there are still so many unknowns, trying to figure out what your next step should be may feel overwhelming to you right now. I understand completely.
But what if you could create a tool that would help you visualize exactly what you want to bring into your life? A tool that would let your creative juices flow AND help you manifest what you truly desire. Would you be willing to give it a try?? If your answer is yes, then gather up your magic markers, grab some magazines and some glue and get ready because it’s time to make a vision board!!
If you’re not familiar with the idea of a vision board it’s exactly as the name implies…..a poster board filled with words and images of things that represent your “vision” for the future. A vision board is a tool that allows you to use the power of your imagination to help you create your future.
Studies have shown that having a vision board can increase your motivation and your confidence. Because it’s a visual reminder of what you want, a vision board will help you to stay on the right path in order to keep moving towards your dreams.
Vision boards are based on the idea that whatever you give your attention to grows. We’ve all seen grow lights for plants, right? Well, think of your vision board as a “grow light” for your life. When you shine that light on your career, your relationships or your health, that area of your life will begin to blossom!
Ready to get started?
There are lots of ways to make a vision board. You can make a very simple one which is what I usually do or you can go all out and venture into the digital world. A vision board does not have to be expensive. You can use photos from old magazines or you can simply write out affirmations on a piece of poster board using some colored markers. Use whatever you have on hand.
Creating a vision board can be a lot like creating a piece of artwork but it’s also about nurturing your mindset. Give yourself the gift of some quiet time to contemplate what you truly desire. This is your chance to be still and really listen to what’s in your heart. I know it would be easy to say “I want a million dollars” but think about why you want that money. What would you do with more money? How will it enhance your life? The more specific you are, the better your chances will be of receiving exactly what you need.
That being said, it’s also fine to make a vision board when have no idea about what you want. Due to recent events, you may be feeling lost so instead of looking for words or pictures on specific topics, choose pictures you feel drawn to. As you lay them out on your poster board, you may notice a pattern developing which could provide some clarity for you.
As far as supplies, you will need some type of board. I like to use poster board but you can also use a cork board, a magnetic board or even an old picture frame. Other supplies will vary depending on the type of board you are using but you will need magazines to find pictures, scissors, crayons or markers and something to hold your pictures in place like glue, tape or thumbtacks.
Once you have your photos, lay them out on the board in a way that feels good to you. You can also write some affirmations or inspirational sayings around the photos. When you are happy with the placement of everything, seal the deal with some glue and that’s it! The last thing you need to do is find a spot where you can place your board so that you will see it multiple times throughout your day.
I have been making vision boards for many years now so I know they really do work. For example, in the past couple weeks I have had several things on my vision board come true. What really surprised me was that they happened as a result of the pandemic!
One of my dreams was that I wanted to do more “staycations” instead of vacations this year. I love to travel but I realized I wanted some time to just relax in the comfort of my own home. Well, I guess it goes without saying that I definitely got some “staycation” time….in fact, I got more than I ever could have imagined!! And, as a bonus, I was able to shelter in place for 5 days at our family home in Sedona! Honestly, spending more than a weekend at the Sedona house has been on my vision board for a couple years now!! So you see, even in the midst of uncertainty, dreams really can come true.
Obviously no one envisioned the dramatic turn of events that would occur in just a few short months, but if you are willing, this might be the perfect time to look to your future. Whether you want to start a new career, buy that dream home or find true love, a vision board is your chance to dream big. It is an opportunity to open up, trust the process and believe with all your heart that you will receive everything you ask for.
Are you ready to give it a try? I say go for it…..you’ve got nothing to lose and everything to gain!
Sweet dreams 😉
